Cleaning to Prevent the Flu
The Maids Columbus • Oct 22, 2012

The weather is getting colder, and soon, everyone will be staying indoors a lot more often. While you may love this time of year, the changing of the seasons, and the holidays to come, it also invites germs and promotes the spread of the flu virus.

You can take steps to keep your home from passing on these germs, though! Hiring a maid service can help get your house completely disinfected, but here are some extra tips for keeping things cleaner and safer:

  • Clean the objects you and your family touch the most. Keyboards, light switches, doorknobs, and toys are likely culprits for spreading germs, so clean these things more frequently during the flu season.
  • Clean commonly used surfaces. Like the objects you use most, the surfaces you use most also need attention, including tables, kitchen counters, and bathroom surfaces.
  • Wash linens frequently. If someone in your family is sick, wash their linens alone in hot water as soon as their cold or flu has passed.
  • Allow disinfectants to soak some before wiping clean. This allows the disinfectant to do its work and kill the germs.
  • Encourage hand washing. When you finish cleaning your bathroom and kitchen, make sure there's enough soap available and remind children to wash their hands often. Hand washing is the best way to prevent the spread of cold and flu germs.

During the colder seasons, you want your home to be a warm and inviting place for family and friends and a safe place to relax for yourself. House cleaning is an important part of keeping your home a place where you want to spend your time, and adding in these steps to help keep your home germ free will make it a nicer place to be all year long.
