How To Get Things Done: Making a Plan
The Maids Columbus • Jan 02, 2013

If you want to know you’ve completed everything that needed your attention (and know you’ve done it right!), making a plan is the most important part. Planning things in advance let’s you prepare, schedule properly, and have confidence that when you’ve done everything in your calendar, you are done.

When it comes to housekeeping, a plan might not seem necessary, but it can actually help you a lot! From knowing how to prioritize to when everything needs to be finished, having a plan is a great starting point.

Planning for a Cleaner House

The unfortunate thing about a house is that you live there, which means it constantly needs some kind of cleaning. When keeping up is exhausting, hiring a maid service might be the way to go, but for the things you want to do yourself, planning ahead will get you going in the right direction!

1. Set goals. Before you make your plan, set your goals. They might be as simple as “keep the front of the house clean enough for company every day” or as involved as “create an organization system for the closet.” When you make goals, make sure you write them down. People who write their goals are more likely to achieve them!

2. Prioritize importance and frequency. Which chores need to be done first? Which chores need to be done every day, and which only need to be done once a week? This will determine how you schedule your cleaning for the month.

3. Schedule the entire month. Sit down with your planner or calendar and start scheduling the chores you don’t do every day so you remember to do them later. Make a to-do list for each day, and check each thing off as you finish it to stay focused and motivated.

If you have a hard time staying organized and remembering what tasks need to be done when, keeping a schedule will help you achieve all of your goals.
