Make House Cleaning Fun For Your Family
The Maids Columbus • Jul 09, 2012

House cleaning is so much easier when everyone gets involved. Not only does the work go faster, but the time spent as a family can be great for everyone. Of course, it’s difficult to convince someone that cleaning is fun, so it’s good to find ways to mix things up and figure out a way to get your family interested.

Here’s a quick way to add some fun to what might be a dull task:

The Hat Race

  • Write down each task that needs to be completed on a slip of paper. Keep it specific and simple. For example, two of them might say, “Take out the trash” and “Pick up toys in the playroom.”
  • Once you have all the tasks written down, fold them up and put them in a hat.
  • One by one, tell each person to draw a task from the hat.
  • Split up and do individual tasks. If someone finishes their task, they should go back to the hat and choose a new one.
  • The person who draws the last slip should announce to everyone that the hat is empty, and then the race is on.
  • Whoever finishes their last task, runs to the hat, and puts it on their head wins.

Chores between visits from your local maid service are necessary, but they don’t have to be boring. Try the Hat Race for yourself, or try one of these other ideas:

  • Race against the clock: can you get your bedroom clean in 15 minutes or less?
  • Treasure hunt: hide a prize in the room that needs to be cleaned—the room has to be cleaned and the treasure found in order to keep the prize!
  • Scavenger hunt: Make a list of things to find while cleaning the house and see who can complete their list.

Turning cleaning into a game lightens the load and gets everyone involved!
