The Purpose and Process of a Cleaning Caddy
The Maids Columbus • May 28, 2013

Maid services work because good, professional maids know how to clean efficiently. The works gets done quickly but thoroughly, and the result is impressive. Anything that can make cleaning more efficient is helpful!

If you’re looking for more efficiency in your cleaning, you might need to look into creating a cleaning caddy for yourself.

A cleaning caddy does two things: it keeps you from running back and forth acquiring cleaning items, draining useful energy and making you lose focus and it also helps you pare down your cleaning products to only those things that are routinely, commonly useful.

Making a Caddy

Ready to make your own cleaning caddy for ease and efficiency? Here’s what to do:

Step #1: The container. The key to the container is to choose something that is big enough to carry what you need but small enough to comfortably carry. Indeed, you need something that’s easy to carry, so you want a handle on your caddy. This could be a wicker or plastic basket or a small bucket, for instance.

Step #2: The cleansers. Here’s where you start to really evaluate the cleaning products you use. You want to have the things you need so you don’t have to run back to the cleaning closet, but you also don’t want to overload your caddy. Here’s a good short list:

  • A great all-purpose cleaner (if you’re making your own, vinegar and water).
  • A scrubbing cleaner (going natural and non-toxic? Try baking soda!).
  • A super gentle cleaner (dishsoap and water for do-it-yourself).

If there’s something you know you don’t want to do without (like your favorite toilet bowl cleanser), swap out one of the others for it, or throw it in the basket when you know you’ll be cleaning the toilet.

Step #3: The tools. What tools do you use for cleaning? Like the cleansers, stick to the basics of what you need. Your three best tools are likely going to include some kind of gentle washer like a sponge, a scrubber like a coarse sponge or scrub brush, and a good dry tool, like a microfiber cloth.

If you plan to make your own cleaning caddy, what will it include?
