Thoughtful Hosting
The Maids Columbus • Jul 01, 2013

Many people love inviting guests into their home, sometimes for dinner, sometimes for a week or two. If this sounds like something you would like to be able to freely do, there are a few ways to get yourself ready to be the best possible host.

First of all, get in the housekeeping habit. In addition to regular cleanings by you or your maid services, tidy every day. Keep the sink clear of dishes, keep the counters wiped off, and keep things put away. When you keep your home looking nice every day, it will always be ready for company! Read on after the break for a few more ideas.

The Guest Basket

You know that feeling you get when you stay at a hotel or go to a spa, and they let you leave with wonderful smelling samples or things you didn’t know you needed? It’s a great feeling, and you can do this for your guests in a much more significant way.

You can mimic this buy creating a basket for your guest and putting it in their bedroom or the bathroom they will use. This basket may include necessities like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and a toothbrush, as well as fun things, like a candle you think they will like or a small book they might enjoy reading.

Personal Touches

If you know your guest well enough to know the kinds of things they like, you can set their room up with personal touches. If purple is a favorite color, for instance; hang purple towels in the bathroom. If your guest carries a lot of tech, make sure there are outlets for plugging in laptops and chargers. This will show your guest that you weren’t just preparing for company, but for them in particular.

The Bed and Breakfast Treatment

If it’s not your thing, don’t pressure yourself to get up and cook for your guests every day—they are likely your friends, after all! It is a nice treat, so pick a relaxed day and make breakfast for you and your guests, then invite them to sit down and eat with you. A homemade breakfast with friends is a great way to start the day!
